So it goes with out saying if there are the best songs of 2010 there has to be the worst songs of the decade.  The Village Voice has spent hours compiling the worst songs of 2010.  You may not agree with them all especially their number one pick.

"Lovergirl" by Teena Marie

This dance break goes out in memory of Teena Marie who passed away of a seizure today. Keep jamming TM

BASHY - FANTASY (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

This song came out in September but still fresh and we may hear more of it in 2011. Bashy's Fantasy.

Emmanuel Jal - We Want Peace Official Music Video feat Alicia Keys, Geor...

A song calling out for peace this year from Emmanuel Jal and Alicia Keys.

Keri Hilson Feat. Nelly - Lose Control (Let Me Down)

This week I'm going to be looking for the next big dance breaks for 2011. Here is the first one by Keri Hilson feat. Nelly.

Janet Jackson "Together Again" (Official)

You can never go wrong with a little Janet to get you on your feet. This song was first written for those who had passed away due to HIV/AIDS. Of course with the passing of her brother this song could take on a whole new meaning either way it's a great song and now more then ever we should take the opportunity to remember the ones we love who are no longer with us. I would like to dedicate this dance break to my dear friend KP. You will be Together Again!

Trans Siberian Orchestra Carol Of the Bells Izod Center December 13 2008

From Gospel to Industrial Rock. Christmas truly is a time for everyone. Carol of the Bells is easily one of my favorite carols, but this version by the Trans Siberian Orchestra takes it to a whole new level.

Various Artist "Hallelujah Chorus"

With Christmas just a few days away. I thought I would kick the Christmas selections into high gear. This first Christmas Dance Break comes to us from Quincy Jones' Handels Messiha a Soulful Celebration. This Gospel version of the Hallelujah Chorus is simply moving. Artists such as Stephanie Mills, Chaka Kahn, Sounds of Blackness, Stevie Wonder, Take 6 and Joel Sample lend their voices to this joyful and rousing rendition. Not to mention something about Gospel makes me want to get up and do the deep should action down an aisle.

Dance Break to Commercial Break

From Dance Breaks to commercial breaks. Here is a quick look at some fun and forgotten Holiday commercials.

Christina Perri - Jar of Hearts Official Video

Here is a bonus dance break for you. This song is so haunting and it's really speaking to me right now. I also wanted to post this because of the beautiful use of choreography.

George Michael - Faith (US Version)

Not exactly a holiday song, but it is my holiday gift to you in the year 2011. I hope we all find a little faith in something.

The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting Over An Open Fire)

The dance break is my favorite holiday song, by one of my favorite artist, you guessed it Christina Aguilera. I can't help myself the girl can sing!

Destiny's Child - Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

Another claymation inspired video, this one is from Destiny's Child.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town Mariah Carey

Here a Christmas video by Mariah Carey giving a nod to the Claymation special Santa Claus is coming to town.

The Jackson 5 - Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

Our countdown to Christmas Continues with Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer by the Jackson 5.

N Sync - Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays

So one more Christmas song today. This one is from N'Sync. It's a great Christmas song and a fun video. It even features the late Gary Colman Enjoy!

Greyson Chance - Waiting Outside the Lines

It may not be a holiday song, but it's going to be a great Christmas for Greyson Chance. This kid first went viral with a Youtube clip of him playing Lady Gaga's Paparazzi. Now he has his own single. Justin Bieber eat your heart out. Merry Christmas!

GLEE - Baby, It's Cold Outside (Full Performance from 12/7)

This next Christmas Song is your Glee song of the week. Now this song is either very sweet or really creepy depending on how you interpret the lyrics. "Say what's in this drink?" can we say date rape. I do think this version is super cute so snuggle with a love one and enjoy.

Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You

So with 10 days until Christmas I thought I would start posting some holiday dance breaks. 'Tis the season to boogie. This Mariah Carey Christmas song is a classic.

Michael Jackson Duet with Akon - Hold My Hand

Dr. Dre - Kush ft. Snoop Dogg, Akon

Her's your first look at Dr. Dre new video Kush featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon Keep dancing!

Akon - Smack That ft. Eminem

I just had to throw this one in the mix. It's a great booty shake song. So get up and dance. It will keep you warm.

Jimmy Edgar - I Wanna Be Your STD

This Electronic dance break was suggested by a friend of mine. I'm new to Jimmy Edgar but I will keep my eye out for him. The tile of this track leaves a bit to be desired but hey who am to judge. I dig the track for sure. Hope you enjoy!

Pendulum - Midnight Runner

How about some Drum & Base to get you moving today! This live performance of Midnight Runner at the Brixton Academy should do just the trick. Enjoy!

Chrmeo- Fancy Footwork

Fancy Footwork seemed like an appropriate song to put on the blog. The song was released years ago but was most recently featured in Step Up 3D.

Here it is being used in Step Up 3D

Kesha We R Who We R Music Video

Speaking of Kish Kash...Ke$ha. Actually, she has nothing to do with Kish Kash or Basement Jaxx for that mater, but I like the alliteration. While the official video for this song has not been released. This group of talented and industrious gay men put together their own video. They have also done videos for Katy Perry's California Girl, among others.

Basement Jaxx Feat. Lisa Kekaula - Good Luck(Appleseed O.S.T.)

As the chaos of the week begins these next few posts will be all over the place. Starting with Good Luck by Basment Jaxx of their Album Kish Kash. This song takes me back to one of the best New Years parties I had ever been to.

Nephew - "Police Bells & Church Sirens" by Søren Behncke - VideoVideo pr...

During my search of music from Denmark, I ran across a blog that inspired me to post the song Police Bells and Church Sirens by the group Nephew. The video is so imaginative. Two words for you, talking barn.

In case your wondering the blog is called Keeplefty

The WIZ "A Brand New Day" 30 Years of Movie Magic!

Now for something completely different. This here is dance music. Brand New Day comes from the 70's movie The Wiz, an African-American re imagining of The Wizard of Oz.

I could not find a great clip of the dance number but here is clip to show the amazing dance from the movie.

This song also inspired this Family Guy clip.

Kim Zolciak at White Party

Not all Dance Breaks are considered equal. There are some that are just catchy or lame enough that they catch on. I'm sure many of us remember the fame the American idol contestant William Hung received after his Ricky martin "She Bang" rendition. This next dance break is from Kim Zolciak from The Bravo Reality Series, The Real House Wives of Atlanta. This is her performance at the White Party. Now keep in mind this video has been edited and produced so it's not to bad, actually kind of a hot track.

This is Kim Live on The Ellen DeGeneres

Now this song and Kim's follow up single Google Me inspired Q-100 Bert show Co-host Melissa Carter to write her song Unplugged. Inspired may not be the right word to use since Carter felt that with the right producer and auto tune anyone can have a hit song. You can find both Tardy for the Party and Unplugged on itunes.

An additional note all the proceeds of Unplugged go to support The Melissa Carter Transplant Fund of Piedmont Hospital.

Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP We No Speak Americano Extended Version

So this song is number 29 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. The song is so fresh and fun and what a great video. Hope you all enjoy!

Down With Webster - Whoa Is Me

I've always had a strange obsession with Canada. Maybe it started in my early childhood watch show like You Can't Do That on Television. No matter what some great things come out of Canada including this group Down with Webster and their song, that is number 27 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, Whoa is me.

Shawn Desman - Night Like This (New Hot RnB Music 2010)

Another Canadian artist for you today. Shawn Desman. One of the great thing about doing this blog is discovering new artist and new music from all over the world. Music and dance are universal and has the power to bring us together. So grab a partner and dance on a Night Like This.

Fefe Dobson - Stuttering

This song is at number 13 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. It's been a while since I've heard a song from Fefe Dobson.

Rihanna - What's My Name? ft. Drake

This song is climbing up the charts both in the U.S and Canada. Has Rihanna put out a song that was not a hit?

Kyle Riabko - Pop Medley (Saskatoon 2009)

My search for new artist, great music and something to move to, took me to our neighbor to the north, Canada. To be honest I had never heard of this guy before but after seeing this clip I will have my eye on him. You may recognize Kyle Riabko from his role on 90210. Here he is doing a medley of pop songs. You gotta love a guy with a guitar. Enjoy!

Top 10 Blog Posts

Happy Thanksgiving 4 PM Dance Breakers!

Almost three months ago to the day I started building this blog.  As I stop to give thanks today, I would like to Thank everyone who has been reading the blog.  I had no idea what to expect when I started this, but the journey so far has been great. Thanks to the readers in the U.S, Denmark, UK, Canada, Russia, Georgia, Bolivia, Ireland, Australia and India.  I hope you have been enjoying the music and the dance and I hope you are able to share it with friends.

Please feel free to leave comments or request songs.  I am always looking for new music and the next Big Break.  Today's posts are a look back over the last three months.  The Top 10 post you all ran out to dance to and 10 post you may have missed.

Enjoy, Dance and Be Thankful!

Top 10 Post

This song was just posted but already made your top 10. Debuting at number 10,

Another song that was posted just this week, but got a lot of traffic, is a live performance by Pink. Debuting at number 9 here's

The second of three Glee songs to make this top 10 list at number 8,

With a hot hook, a killer producer and a dash of auto tune, Bert Show co-host Melissa Carter, set out to prove that anyone can make a hit single.  Well she did just that. At number 7 here is

Slash and Fergie seem like an unlikely duo but their new single seemed to have everyone buzzing.  Maybe it was the sexy video, or the hard rock beat. Either way your 6th most viewed post sizzles.

The final Glee song in this top 10 list takes an old classic and meshes it with a hot hit. Number 5

It was surprising to see how readers took to this next post.  One of my favorite local Atlanta bands at number 4 here's

The next post on the list is not a song, but an interview.  Cee Lo Green's album The Lady Killer seems to be all the talk.  Your number 3 post

Your number 2 post has been up for less then 24 hours and has quickly became one of the most viewed videos on The 4 PM Dance Break. At number 2...

Here it is your number 1 post.  This one is pretty amazing and shows that songs and dances that are classic are labeled as such for a reason.  Your number 1 post...

The Black Eyed Peas - The Time (Dirty Bit)

It seems to be fitting to play this song today, since Jennifer Gray won Dancing with the Stars last night. Here are The Black Eyed Peas putting their spin on Time of my Life from Dirty Dancing.  It just feels right.  "No body puts Baby in the corner."

Glee Cast - Just The Way You Are (Glee Cast Version)

Glee, one of the best shows on TV IMHO, brought a tear to my eye this week when Finn sang this song to Curt. Take the number a number one song put it with a number one show and you get well this...

Jai Ho (You Are My Destiny)

So not exactly what I wanted to share but it's a great to see different influence coming together. Jai Ho and You are my Destiny from the Pussy Cat Dolls

Love Mera Hit Hit - Billu Barber

At first listen of this song I was dancing at my desk. Some great music from India

"Friend in Need" by RedNo.5

They may not be Native American but I heard this sung by Ulali and so I felt the connection it's a great song and it is posted in the spirit of Thanks, giving and friendship

Ulali sings Maybe

I just love this song. I was first introduced to this group during my summers on the Cherokee Reservation in North Carolina. Some of the best times of my life happened on that Reservation. Find the beat of your heart and dance.

Ulali in Performance

In celebration of Thanksgiving. I thought I would give a nod to some Native American Artist out there. I love this group their music is amazing. Here is Ulali, reminding us to dance and to never forget who we are or where we came from. Enjoy Happy Thanksgiving!!!

So today I thought I would play some artist from Denmark as a nod to the readers there. Enjoy!

Alphabeat is now in the UK but if my research is correct they started off in Denmark.

One of my favorite artist ever!!!!! Christina Aguilera constantly amazes me with her voice, her courage and her versatility. Since I'm looking at Latin artist and in honor of her upcoming movie debut in Burlesque staring Cher here is the Lady X herself.

Ricky Martin - Livin' La Vida Loca

Today's dance break will take a look at Latin artist. The feel and rhythm of Latin music has certainly made it's mark here in the U.S. and across the globe. I thought I'd start with Ricky Martin to get things going.

GLEE - "Umbrella/Singin' In the Rain" Full Performance

Another 4 PM Dance Break Bonus Blog. Last week I posted some classic dances from Gene Kelly from Singing in the Rain. This week Glee did a great Singing in the Rain/Umbrella mash-up. So I thought I would post to show what is old is new again. Props to Gwyneth Paltrow and the Cast of Glee.

It's a 4 PM Dance Break Bonus Blog. A few weeks ago I posted a link to a new song by Atlanta radio morning show host, Melissa Carter. Well here is a video that shows the making of the song as well as the Unplugged debut video.

Eminem - White Trash Party - (W.T.P) Recovery "NEW ALBUM" Lyrics Trogg-...

Of course I could not do a pretty fly for a white guy salute with out giving a nod to one of the sickest rappers out there. His newest album Recovery is probably his best album since his debut album. Here's a little White trash Party from my boy Eminem! Raise up and dance.

Slash - Beautiful Dangerous ft. Fergie

Thought I'd go to an old school artist who is definitely fly for a white guy and is still turning out hits. This time Slash, from Guns N' Roses, teams up with Fergie, from the Black Eyed Peas in Beautiful Dangerous.

MGMT - Electric Feel

These guys have a cool different vibe. One of the cast members of Hairspray turned me on to them. So far I like what I hear, what about you?

Die Antwoord - Enter The Ninja (Explicit Version)

Saw them on Jimmy Kemmel thought it had a pretty good beat and a different sound.

Yelawolf - Pop The Trunk

Yelawolf, a southern rapper being compared to Eminem. Would love to hear your thoughts on this guy. First read about him in an Atlanta paper Creative Loafing.

Girl Talk - Oh No

Pretty Fly for a white guy. These next few post are dedicated to some artists that I am just now getting turned onto.
This fist one, Girl Talk a great DJ who does some off the hook mash-ups.
Definitely worth the listen and of course worth the dance!

Cee Lo Green 'Bright Lights Bigger City' OFFICIAL VIDEO

More music from The Lady Killer. This one has more of a James Bond vibe. So grab your Pussy galore and dance.

What's Old is New Again - Cee Lo Green NPR

Cee Lo Green seems to be everywhere these days. His recent hit single "Forget You", that being the clean version of the songs title, was featured on this weeks episode of Glee. Today, NPR aired an interview discussing his newest album The Lady Killer.

Cee Lo first came onto the scene with Atlanta group Goodie Mob and is probably best know for his Gnarls Barkley hit Single "Crazy". His new album The Lady Killer has a classic sound that is more timeless, while still keeping Cee Lo's signature sounds of camp and funk. Hearing some of the cuts off the album I was instantly transported to my youth. Those cold winter days up north listening to Classic R&B and Soul in my dads old Buick.

It makes me wonder, is the younger generation ready for such classic sounds to return to the air waves? Having grown up listen to Marvin Gay, Al Green and Earth Wind and Fire, The Lady Killer album brought back a feeling of nostalgia. However, if you formative years were spent listening to Britney and Green Day would you appreciate this album as much?

Take a listen to this Cee Lo Green interview on NPR's All Things Considered. I would love to hear what you think of the modern retro sounds of The Lady Killer.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

GLEE - "Forget You" Full Performance feat. Gwyneth Paltrow!

Here is your Glee song of the week! Gwyneth Paltrow did an amazing job. I hope we get to see her later this season.

One of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite local Atlanta bands. These guys are the bee knees, pun totally intended. Their new album, Follow the Elephant will be released soon. You can check out more music from Vortex park on their website.

Jeremy Aggers "Leatherstrap" live at Paste

Jeremy Aggers is a local Atlanta musician. It's great music and I love music that has some soul to it. These are great guys. Hope you enjoy. Remember a song doesn't have to be down and dirty or have a hip hop beat to dance to it. Find your rhythm, find your soul, find your inner dancer.

Richard Devine - Live 2009 New Years Eve

Today the 4 PM Dance break is going to look at all types of music. This first one comes from DJ Richard Devine. He is a amazing DJ and a great guy! Hope you like it.

Tiesto feat. BT - Break My Fall

This 4 PM Dance Break is inspired by my travels through the pacific northwest. My tour partner had just come from spending several months in Costa Rica and introduced me to Tiesto. An open heart and mind lead to freedom of movement. Let go and dance, don't worry we are here to break your fall.

Dixie Chicks - Goodbye Earl

My first tour was through the western plain states of America. Montana, North & South Dakota, Oklahoma, Wyoming and Texas. My first tour partner was a good mid western girl. Two 21 year old kids touring the country teaching kids. So being introduced to The Dixie Chicks seemed more then fitting for this leg of my journey. The 4 PM Dance Break goes Country. Get out your boots and let go two steppin'!

Great Day - Eddie from Ohio

The inspiration for dance can come from anywhere. The 4 O' clock Dance Break is a bit different but then again so was my second tour partner. An amazing spirit and such an open heart. Glee Song of the Week

If you have not been watching Glee, where have you been? This show is bringing back the underdog and they certainly are working the dance moves. So there is now way the 4 O' Clock Dance Break could not have a weekly post devoted to Glee. So here it is the Glee song of the week.

Dancing with the Stars

This 4 O' clock Dance Break was a request from one of my best friends. This is a great video! Christopher Walken is just too much fun. Enjoy and keep dancing!

State of Mind

By 4 PM you have been in meetings all day, made a dozen phone calls and more then likely you have cussed your boss out silently while you sat at your desk. Work can be stressful and effect your state of mind. You take that stress home and take it out on your family. I say no more to that! The 4 PM Dance Break is designed to relieve you from the stress of the day when it really counts.

Butterfly

If a Butterfly flaps his wings in Tokyo, do people in Atlanta, GA dance? You bet they do! When Jason Mraz plays, I can't help but do a little 4 O'clock Dance Break.

Request Line

The Request Line

One of my favorite things about the 4 O'clock Dance Break, the requests. I have friends who will request a song if they have had a rough day at work or just need a pick me up.

All 4 U!

This is the song that started the 4 O'clock Dance Break craze.

HERE'S A LITTLE STORY THAT MUST BE TOLD...

Years ago while working as a Ticket Agent in a box office a co worker and I decided that we should get off our duffs and dance everyday. Everyday at 4 O'clock we would take a break, go to the back and do a choreographed dance, that I still remember till this day.

Since then, everywhere I worked, I took the 4 O'clock Dance Break (4 PM Dance Break works too.) with me. It worked in some places not so much in others. It really didn't matter cause it was my way of shaking off the stress of the day and having a good time.

Now, about 10 years later, Facebook has allowed me to share the 4 O'clock Dance Break with my friends across the country. It's been exciting to see the response. Most of my friends on Facebook are familiar with the 4 PM Dance Break. Now, I want to kick it up a notch!

My mission is to share my love of music, dance, friendship and just a plain old good time with as many people as possible. So please, spread the word of dance and join me in the 4 O'clock Dance Break!
