Vortex Park Release Party
Saturday night in East Atlanta the roads are pretty empty in this part of town. Mostly loft apartments and condos, some industrialized areas and a few small bars. As I pull down Krog st more of the same. a Lone street lamp on and a midsized warehouse space on the corner. Pretty unassuming. As I pulled closer I notice lights flashing from outside the building. Even closer I see people hanging out in front of the ware house and ever nearer still, the thump of the drums inside like and elephant stomping through the jungle, I had arrived. I followed the sounds of the elephant inside the building as we greeted at the door and given my pass to go inside.
The Vortex Park CD Release party was great. An amazing crowd of loyal followers mixed with newbies who were jammin' out to the gypsy, cosmic vibe of Vortex Park. After being there for a few minuets, a cute little blond came up to me, she had this impish smile. "Excuse me, you look like you know how to dance." (Please note she made this statement because I was at the time dancing and it had nothing to do with the fact that I am black, OK maybe a little. ) she continued "would you like to dance?" What kind of Dance Breaker would I be if I did not take the opportunity to dance. And so we did.
Vortex Park closed out their first set with a new song off the album called Yellow Flowers. I'm loving the new stuff from the guys. This is an album you want to put in your car CD player and head on a road trip with two of your crazy friends.
During the intermission, I had a chance to talk with some of the folks who were there to talk with the band. There was so much going on with the drinking of the Terrapin and the cigarettes. I meet some interesting folks, including a singer who just moved here from Seattle.
The second set started strong giving us a much more jammin' version of Bee Sting and some Gypsy Metropolis. It was a great night. The guys were great as always. Can't wait to hear what's next. Insider sources tell us there are already three new songs in the works. Keep it coming VP.
There it is, the elephant.
